Abstract

Although the SEPA flap was described by A.D. Dias in 1984, it has not been generally utilized.
We have treated 6 cases of reconstruction involving hands and forearm. Our experience with SEPA flaps confirms their reliability, convenience and versatility. The flap was very mobile and could be rotated through almost 1800 on either side. Immobilization was less troublesome when the flap was used on the hands. Also the SEPA flap design can be used in conjunction with other flaps and itself contributes to a more rational use of the skin of the lower abdomen in reconstructive surgery.
In this paper we presented a series of 6 cases, a method for planning and dissecting the flap, and an analysis of its advantages and disadvantages with introducing reference articles.
